Microchip Saves Bundi
|
Recently, "Bundy" was found on Prince Edward Parade, Redcliffe wandering without a collar and without a care.
She was brought to the vet surgery and scanned.
She had a microchip and we were able to give her owners a phone call.
"Bundy" was owned by Terry, who said she had been missing for 24 hours from Old Bay Rd, Burpengary. It was a happy reunion.
In recent years, the development of numeral recording and scanning technology has made it possible to permanently identify our pets.
A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice.
It has been electronically imprinted with a 10 digit number
which can not be altered. The microchip is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades with a large bore needle.
The process is quick and relatively painless.
Once implanted the microchip can be read using a scanner which is passed over the pet´s skin. If the microchip number has been recorded with a
national registry, owner´s details are quickly available.
In the event of a lost pet, if it has been scanned and the microchip number matches current owner details, the pet can be quickly reunited with its owners.
While there are numerous tales of pets being reunited some hundreds of kilometres from home, this story illustrates the benefits of microchipping just as well.
IF A PET IS MICROCHIPPED IT CAN BE IDENTIFIED.
