Meow in Memoriam
Meow, our resident feline friend, and one-time newsletter commentator, passed away earlier this year, and all of us at Peninsula Veterinary Surgery miss him,
so we would like to take some time to pay him tribute.
Meow came to us as a stray, having been hit by a car on busy Anzac Avenue, 13 years ago. Nobody claimed him as theirs, so he stayed.
It was his destiny. He adapted well to sharing his territory with our patients, and even seemed to enjoy parading around like royalty
in front of the puppy preschoolers that came at night for classes.
He was very handsome and everybody loved him. He had a way of looking at you that was calm and wise.
His favourite place in winter used to be on top of the computer monitors, before they became slimline, where the warm air would blow from the fan.
His tail would flop down in front of the screen and make it difficult for the nurses to work, but our clients enjoyed his greetings.
He loved sitting on James’ lap at lunch time and during our team meetings. He didn’t like missing out on any group gathering.
Meow ate mostly dry food but he preferred it really fresh, so he learnt to open new bags of food and feast overnight.
It was a constant battle of wits trying to stop him from ruining our food stock. He hated the sound of the smoke alarms when they were
accidently triggered and would behave strangely whenever it happened.
An overactive thyroid gland was the first major problem for our Meow, but he came through that after radioactive therapy at the specialist.
He later developed inflammatory bowel disease and finally his kidneys failed.
He was a very special, much loved member of our practice family and a well-known and loved friend to many of our patients and clients.
We will always remember him.
